There is something about the solstice that makes you notice quiet things.
A shift you can’t always see right away, but you can feel it...The return. The turning. The promise that the light is still doing its work, even when everything looks still.
My poem was selected by the WBRL, but I think it resonates with me more now then when I had first entered the contest.
“Wait on the sun,” can be interpreted as many things, but in relation to the solstice, I like to think it to be the moment you decide to stop forcing what isn’t ready, and to choose patience over pressure. Because the solstice isn’t magic. It doesn’t fix everything overnight. It just marks the turning. It reminds you that change can be slow, and still be real.
And sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is what the title says: Wait on the sun.
