To be honest, I’m kind of a Grinch when it comes to Christmas, so I usually like to take the tree down as soon as possible. But the girls and I had a fun idea this year when they got little cameras from two sets of their grandparents.
We’re keeping the tree up a little longer this year and have called it The “For Now" Tree, because we don’t know how long we will keep it up…but it will be up at least until Valentine’s Day, because then we can put valentines decorations in it too (my favourite holiday).
Instead of ornaments, we’ve been adding the pictures, little notes, drawings and even some random little toys too apparently. With kids involved, you never know what this is going to look like but their imagination is better than any adults could be. So it could turn into a full masterpiece, or absolute chaos, or both. Before I take it down eventually, I’ll come back to this and take a picture. Then I’ll add it to a memory box.
I like this idea because it’s a reminder that some things aren’t meant to be rushed away and that love can stay visible, even after the season changes. Like trees that grow and change in stages, some things are for now, but the memories we make (and those that a trees make) can be remembered forever.
P.s. Don't worry, the lights don’t stay on, and they’re monitored whenever they are on; safety comes first.
