When 'Isolation' Brings People Together

Participating in the recent issue themed Isolation, curated by Steve Reeve, was a profound experience. I’m honoured that three of my poems: "Grape without the G," "Undercover," and "Imprisoned Thoughts" were selected. Ironically, they began in my journal about three years ago. Although the themes were vulnerable, the act of sharing them felt deeply connecting. It was moving to see so many voices come together around the concept of isolation, each offering something personal, honest, and brave.

Interestingly, I had also submitted a newer piece that I had actually written this year, one that explored racism through the metaphor of a goat. That one wasn’t chosen, but I believe every piece has its own season. Poetry aside, for me, this idea naturally leads into a broader one about whose voices are amplified or silenced, depending on the spaces and faces.

The organization said they will be posting a YouTube link at some point- where you can watch the readings of my poems alongside those of other talented artists. I’m excited for you to experience all of the diverse voices that contributed to this theme.

If I could leave on one final note, it would be to challenge others to speak up to save others who may be isolated. We all have a voice, and together, we can make a difference. Again, big thanks to Steve Reeve, who chose this theme and gave me the inspiration and honour to come out of "Isolation."
