If you read this month's newsletter and/or have been following the Scripture Sports Spotlights- you may have gotten a preview of the significance of this player and message to me.
Psalm 18:2 & Proverbs 22:6
This is a biblical double entendre in a sense, because not only is God her rock as a believer but her parents (specifally speaking about her father) brought her up in a way to honour and trust in God first.
Psalm 18:2 states, "The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold."
Proverbs 22:6, often quoted about parenting, states: "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it".
Caitlin Clark: A Game-Changer on and off the Court
Caitlin Clark is a name that echoes through the world of basketball with undeniable greatness. Known for her deep three-pointers, court vision, and competitive fire, she plays the game with a level of confidence and skill that makes her a must-watch. Whether she’s orchestrating the offense or pulling up from the line, In my opinon, Clark dominates with an intensity that has redefined women’s basketball.
But beyond her talent, what makes Caitlin Clark truly stand out is her faith and the values instilled in her by her father. She not only trusts in her ability but also in the One who gives her strength, God.
Faith as Her Foundation
Caitlin has been vocal from the start about her foundation of her beliefs and values.
Clark’s journey mirrors the biblical truths found in Psalm 18:2 and Proverbs 22:6, scriptures that beautifully encapsulate her faith and upbringing.
“The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” – Psalm 18:2
This verse perfectly aligns with Clark’s foundation as an athlete and believer. Just as she relies on her skills and training in high-pressure moments, she also leans on God as her refuge and strength. The rock-solid confidence she displays on the court reflects a deeper trust in something greater than herself.
Additionally, Proverbs 22:6 highlights the impact of her upbringing.
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
Clark’s father played a pivotal role in shaping not just her game but also her faith. The discipline, work ethic, and trust in God that she carries today are a testament to the way she was raised. This biblical double entendre, God as her rock and her father guiding her to honor Him, is inspiring to witness.
More Than Basketball
Caitlin Clark’s story is bigger than just her record-breaking stats. She embodies what it means to be a competitor, a leader, and a person of faith. Whether it’s hitting clutch shots or remaining grounded in her values, she proves that true greatness isn’t just about what you achieve but also about who you become in the process.
As she continues to make history, one thing is clear. Her foundation is unshakable, and just like Psalm 18:2 reminds us, that foundation isn’t built on fame or talent but on faith in God, the ultimate rock.
