For the past few months, my girls and I have been pouring our hearts into a song and little dance, tentatively titled “Proverbs 27:17.”
My girls and I are always playing and dancing around to music. So when Stella said she wanted to play guitar, and Zenley wanting to play and sing pretty much everything...plus my writing, it became a fun idea, and learning opportunity.
I have always taught my kids to do things like spell their names to a tune, and I think verses could do the same thing; which they have.
It’s been a mix of amusement, learning and love. Yet, for some reason, I’ve found myself hesitating to share it. I guess perfectionism has a way of sneaking in, making me second-guess whether the timing or the track is good enough.
Deep down, though, I believe that God will reveal the right moment to release it. There’s comfort in knowing that He has a purpose even when our own standards get in the way. Music has always been therapeutic for me— it gives voice to emotions I can’t always put into words. And working on this song with my girls has become a bonding experience I’ll treasure, regardless of when (or how) we finally put it out into the world.
In the meantime, I’m learning to trust the process. If the message behind Proverbs 27:17 is about strengthening and encouraging one another, maybe it’s time to let go of my perfectionism and let this song do exactly that.
